Today, my weekly NoiseTrade email arrived and a band name stuck out to me: The Paper Kites. They have a free EP available on the website, so I thought I'd have a listen. Boy is it good.
The music reminds me a lot of The Shins mixed with some of The Lumineers. "Leopold Street" is an especially good song. There are hints of female backing vocals, along with a bit of soft instrumentals and slow-tempoed guitar picking. The following song, "Halcyon" sounds a lot like Of Monsters and Men works in pacing terms.
Because of the group's creative name, I thought it was obligatory to share it with readers of Papermail. It's one of my favorite new folk bands.
